Have Some Class When Using Hashtags

The recent hostage terror events in Sidney provide all social media users with examples of “think twice before you pick a hashtag” for a tweet.

#illridewithyou

Australian Twitter users offered to accompany Muslims on public transport as a gesture of solidarity under the hashtag #illridewithyou. It's meant to calm retaliatory fears.

#Hostagesituationselfie

If you can believe it, there were actually bystanders taking selfies at the scene of the hostage crisis in what must be the most disrespectful and unempathetic acts I've seen on Twitter in awhile.

The twitterverse is rewarding the first hashtag and bashing those unwise enough to post a selfie with the second hashtag.

Take-Away

Think twice when picking a hashtag and remember, there are real people affected at the other end of a #.

Show some class and don’t be ugly.
